Ragging is a criminal offense as per the Karnataka Educational Act 1983 and the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. B.V.V.S Basaveshwar Commerce College, Bagalkot ensures strict compliance on the prevention of Ragging in any form. Ragging means, “Causing, inducing, compelling or forcing a student, whether by way of practical otherwise, to commit any act which detracts from human dignity or violates his/her person or exposes him/her to ridicule from committing any lawful act”.
Ragging in all its forms is banned in this college including in its departments, constituent units, all its premises (academic, residential, sports, cafeteria, etc.) whether located within the campus or outside and in all means of transportation for students whether public or private. The college will take strict action, including, but not limited to a criminal proceeding and/or cancellation of admission against those found guilty of ragging and/or of abetting ragging and the burden of proof shall hereby lie on the perpetrator of the alleged ragging and not on the victim. An offense of Ragging may be charged either on a written complaint by the affected or on an independent finding of the Anti Ragging Cell.
Anti-Ragging Cell, established according to the regulations of the UGC, is the moral police of our college. The Cell’s responsibility is to ensure that students maintain discipline in the classrooms and within the college campus. Members of the cell regularly go on rounds to each and every classroom to make note of errant behavior and to make sure that the college campus is free from ragging and eve teasing. The Cell takes severe punitive action against students indulging in such heinous activities.
Students can make use of the suggestion boxes placed on different sections of the campus to make their complaints regarding ragging. They may also approach the members of the cell or any of their other teachers as is comfortable to them.
Students may also express their grievances online by filling out the form below. Students are requested to note that making a complaint is serious and therefore they are to use this power in a responsible manner. At the same time, the college assures students that once a complaint is made, it will be treated with sensitivity and confidentiality.
Objectives
- To prohibit any inappropriate conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
- To prohibit any rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear/apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
Anti Ragging
My Dear Students,
Ragging can be a menace for any student or academic institution like Basaveshwar Commerce College. The Honorable Supreme Court of India, State Governments and the UGC, on measures to be adopted to prevent ragging and punish those who indulge in or abet ragging in any way, have issued the directives. Ragging is considered a serious, punishable offense. Students must be aware that any impulsive act may be construed as ‘Ragging’ and must be avoided. They must be extremely careful in their action, expression and demeanor to avoid being held guilty Under various provisions of Anti Ragging directives. All student activities are closely monitored and they are under constant surveillance as this Institute has put in place various measures to make it a ragging free campus and as per directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. They are hereby forewarned on eventualities if found engaged/indulging in any kind of ragging. Students must be respectful to their seniors, also need to be careful from being subjected to ragging by seniors and in such events; they need to promptly inform the authority concerned in the Institute, without any fear and hesitation. I shall advise all my students to be focused on their studies, engaged in quality pursuits in fulfillment of their career goals and refrain from all unpleasant activities which may be construed as ragging. Make their association with this Institute fulfilling, enriching and purposeful. Senior students have an onerous responsibility to help the fresher’s, their juniors, to make their stay in this Institute, very comfortable and pleasant. The seniors must act as friends, philosophers, and guides to their juniors so that a seamless, positive interaction is possible.
